The Year of Our Lord: 2009

I'm going to start this post off with a blunt question:
What have you accomplished in the year of 2008?
I hope that whatever it was, it was for good.
We should be able to look back on our lives in the past year, and see a bumpy, rocky climb upwards.
By the grace of God, I see that upward trend in my life. He has enabled me to get a more realistic grasp on life, and to get past my 'nice-nasty' syndrome of getting down and dirty while cleaning house. :)
He gave me a book to read this year, entitled 'Beautiful Girlhood'; I see this as a tool that He gave me, and it is working in my life as well. (Although, it is NOT the book, but God.)
My resolution for this year, is to try and wear skirts year-round; this includes feeding the horses, working in the garden, horse-back riding, and all of the other things that us girls think that we can't do if we're in a skirt. It's true that we think this, is it not? I used to think that I couldn't wear a skirt if I working in the garden; but last year, I wore a skirt up there, and it wasn't a smidgen harder than when I was in pants. Here is the picture behind my motivation:

This is Liberty Phillips, she hiked to the summit of
Huana Picchu of Peru...in a skirt. (you can go to Vision-Forum HERE)

As Christians, when we set our goals for the year, we need to hold fast to them and carry them out. It WILL be hard, but by the steady, providential hand of our Lord, He will help us.
Holding fast to our goals is a tough job, but if we succeed--giving ALL glory and honor to God--we can be a godly witness for those about us. It may seem silly that something this small can make a difference, but IT CAN! The smallest things we do; (girls) picking up your siblings toys, wiping off the counters in the kitchen, folding a napkin to look pretty, taking your father a glass of water on a hot day--(boys) taking the trash to the garbage can, helping your little brother with a project, seeing if your father needs help in his work, raking up leaves in the yard--There is SO many things that you can do! And they all make a difference. Like I said, YOU may not notice...But OTHERS will.
Keep this in mind, and may the LORD bless you in the year of 2009.

In 2008, I do see God working on me. He has really helped me to love more, which is really important.
And good job for making a commitment to only wear skirts. :) It will be a witness to others, I can tell you that!
Well, Happy New Year!
And wonderful post! :)

I don't think I could do everything in a skirt, way to go Rose! I am going to try to wear them more than I did this year. :)

Thanks...to tell the truth, I don't think that I could do it either...BUT I AM GOING TO TRY! ;D

Joanna~
Put it this way; the women in the Pioneer times had to to EVERYTHING in a skirt or dress! If they could, then I'm sure that we could, too.
Good job on planing to wear a skirt more! I tell you, when I was younger, I was quite a rebellious child, and WOULD NOT wear a skirt for ANYTHING, but when the Lord started to turn my heart, I began to wear them...it was hard at first, but now I find that I can do almost anything I want to in one, you just have to get used to it.

Thanks for the comments!

Whats the problem with not wearing skirts? (And rose I am talking in the context of JUST girls. :P)

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I am not saying that it is wrong. It's not. What I said was "MY resolution for this year, is to try and wear skirts year-round". YOU don't have to wear skirts if you don't want to! :)

Hi Rose!
I love your blog and this post. :) God did create us women to be women, and to be modest in how we dress and to obey our parents and keep our focus on our Savior! :)Thank you for writing this post.

Hi Rachel!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I totally agree with you on this point; God did create us to be women, not men. Women should look, dress, and act differently from their protectors. The ONLY time this year that I would wear pants, would probably be at 1:00 AM in the morning when our horse Belle gives birth to a foal...but other than that, I shall strive to wear skirts.

Thanks for the wonderful comment!

In Christ,
~Rose

P.S. I don't know at all if she would give birth at 1:00 AM...that was mere speculation for an example! ;)

The obedience of a child of God is not measured by what clothing we wear but by our walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16).
When looking at “doubtful things" we need to use Scripture in context for the principles that will help us walk as believers, which means considering the dispensation and the whole counsel of God and not taking passages out of context. There is a passage in the Old Testament that speaks about a woman wearing men's clothing: "A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this" (Deuteronomy 22:5). Deuteronomy 22:5 is an admonition not to live as a transvestite. This has to do with more than just clothing; it also speaks of a life that emulates in every way those of the opposite sex. The Apostle Paul wrote extensively on the difference between the law and grace in Romans. We are not justified by our adherence to the law, but we are justified by faith in Christ (Romans 3:21-28).(Romans 7:6). Therefore, a believer does not live by legalism, nor by license, but rather by grace.
There is no biblical law that says what a woman should wear or not wear. Rather, the issue is one of modesty. Paul addressed this issue here because the women in the church were trying to outdo each other in how they dressed, and the flashier the better. They were losing sight of the things that should adorn a godly woman—humility, sobriety, godliness, and good works. We are not to allow our consciences to be dictated to by legalism and the consciences of others, but by our own relationship with Christ. "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me" (Galatians 2:20). God will take care of the outward woman if we walk in obedience in the inward woman.

Dear Timeless Trinkets,
As I said when I responded to Fox's comment, I did not do this post to start a debate; I simply was stating what my resolution for this year was. Like I told Fox, it's only something that I am doing; I am not suggesting that every one else should follow in my footsteps and I am not condemning those that choose to wear pants. I just personally look and feel more feminine and modest in a dress or skirt. Hope this clears things up.:)

Thanks for commenting! :)

Hi Rose! I wanted to thank you so much for your blog. It's so encouraging to know that there are other young ladies who are striving to make the most of their girlhood/womanhood and living their lives for Jesus Christ! I wanted to applaud your conviction on wearing skirts year 'round. My family started wearing all skirts/dresses two years ago and it has been nothing but a blessing! It's wonderful to be able to be a witness for Christ to a fallen world even in the smallest ways. Thanks again for your wonderful blog! Have a great week!
In Christ, Michaela
P.S. I just love that pic of Liberty Phillips! She is such an inspiration too!

Dear Michaela,
Thanks so much for the wonderful comment! It definitely encouraging to see other godly young ladies out there making a difference!
If I might be so bold to ask; how did you come across my blog? Do you plan on having one? I hope so! I'd love to see it one day.
Liberty Phillips is one of my role models, as is the whole Doug Phillips family.
Anyway, have a blessed day, and thanks again for the comment. :)

Dear Rose,
I came across your blog through the Gorecki's blog. Meghan and Sara are dear friends of mine. When I saw you were following their blog, I clicked on your account, then accessed your blog through that! I hope that's okay; it's sounds kind of strange retelling it now! :) My sister and I are hoping to start a blog; possibly in May when school ends! I will tell you when/if we get it up and running. Until then is it okay if I "follow" your blog? It's been such an awesome encouragement! Never grow weary in fighting the good fight! I'll be praying for you! :)
