The Traveling North Carolinian......Has Returned!!!

I'm back....and boy did I have a GREAT time!

I have been gone for five days now, and every single one was packed full! We went to the Winston-Salem Home School Conference, and I bought several books, modeling clay, pencils and some "rock soap" they had there. (It smells really good! It looks like a colored rock, but is soap...as the name suggests.:)
It was SO much fun waiting outside the
doors to the book fair about fifteen minutes before they opened, and the tension was growing rapidly! :D The speeches were excellent. Norm Wakefield spoke on "Maintaining Your Child's Heart" and "Life with Amanda", their daughter with Downs syndrome. We went to listen to Jim Weiss, an excellent story teller. He was absolutely hilarious. We got to go swimming on several occasions for about two hours....with the pool ALL to ourselves. :) (There is a video at the bottom of the book fair.)
On Saturday evening, I and my par
ents left for another hotel in Wake Forest. For our first adventure there, we found that there was no hot water in the room we were in. Sooo....we had to go through a big ordeal with that, and, by the Lord's grace alone, there was an adjoining room that was empty. So, we got two rooms to make one big one. Oh, and the hot water did work in the second room. :D
Sunday morning, we all went to Scott Brown's
church. There were a ton of people, and since they already had the tent up that they use for Memorial Day, they had church under there. Once again, to my delight, I was able to talk to Liberty Phillips. She and two of her brothers, Joshua and Justice, had flown up earlier with some of the Vision Forum staff. We listened to some good teaching, and then afterward, went back to the hotel. The next morning, we went back over there for Memorial Day. There were a good four hundred--maybe more--people there. It was almost overwhelming. You can search my blog in the search box in the upper left hand corner for "Memorial Day at Scott Brown's Farm!" to see last year's post on this, and get some background into the history of the people that I'm going to speak of next.
William Henderson was there once again this year, and it was wonderful, if not a bit heartbreaking, to listen to him. Bill Brown, Scott Brown's father, was also a pleasure to listen to. Also there was Ezra Hill, a Tuskegee Airman. (Who also has the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor, by the way.:) He was also a pleasure to listen to, and at the closing of the event, he sung "I'm Proud to be an American". (I think that's what it's called!) It was wonderful. Mr Phillips also delivered a wonderful speech, and we all got to enjoy some blessed fellowship. Mrs Phillips, Providence, Honor and Virginia Hope were also there this year. I got to talk with Mrs Phillips a bit, and all I can say is that she is a wonderful woman.
Oh! And before I forget, I also had the honor of once
again meeting a very special man that I had the privilege of meeting last year: Mr. Henry "Pete" Sowell. He is a veteran and I like him very much.
Yesterday was one of the best days of my life, and I was sad when it was time to go. Many of the veterans signed my autograph book as well. I absolutely love going there each year, and being reminded of how we should honor our veterans all the time...not just on Memorial Day. God has blessed my family and I to be able to go for the past two years, and I pray that He will continue to do so.

Let us remember to honor our veterans every day, and thank the Lord for those who were willing to
die in OUR stead.

God bless America!

Dear Anna,

I'm so glad to hear from you! I'm sorry that I couldn't meet you in person at Memorial Day...that would've been neat! This was the second time that I've met your granddad, and he is one amazing person. I was wondering if you would like to be "e-palls"? ("writing" each other over e-mail instead of mail.)

Just asking!

In Christ,
~Miss Rose
