The Simple Woman's Day Book

For Today…August 23, 2008
Outside my Window…Partly cloudy, sun patches here and there, cool.
I am thinking…Getting the rest of the house clean for my mom! :)
I am thankful for…Everything!
From the kitchen…Only the sound of Classical music and a small water fountain.
I am wearing…Long light blue skirt, red shirt with small white flowers and barefoot.I am reading…A Lantern in her Hand and the Bible, Daniel, to be exact.

I am hoping…To get a horse that we've been looking at called Boston.
I am hearing…
The A/C, computer vent, my keyboard, Classical music and water fountain.
Around the house…Fairly clean, especially the kitchen.
One of my favorite things
…My Purity Locket from Vision Forum.com

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week…Well, getting ready for church tomorrow, and Tuesday going out of town to my Grandma's in GA.

I accomplished since last week: Making a habit out of putting baby powder in my bed before I go to sleep! :P

Here is a picture I want to share with you…
(I got this off of Google.)

All The Pretty Little Ponies

All the Pretty Little Ponies: I have always loved that song, so I found this video to post on here.
It wasn't exactly the version of the song that I wanted (this one is from Flicka, if I'm not mistaken.)
Anyway, it was the only one that I could find.
Please comment!

Red Is Better!!!

YAAAAAY!!!
Red is better! He is now walking normal and is getting around good.
He's not limping, but when he puts his leg down to take a step, it's a bit wobbly...but who cares as long
as he's able to walk well??? :)
Thank you to the girls who put the previous post on their blogs!

Please Pray for My Horse Red.....

Hello girls,
Sorry about not posting the winners from the Picture Taking Contest....we've been rather busy:
yesterday, my dad and I went up to the barn that we are building to work, well, my horse, Red, seemed fine, perfectly normal. My
dad and I had to go and get some gates to put up in the barn, so all in all, we were gone for about an hour and a half.
When we got back, I walked around the side of the barn to get something, and Red was standin
g there, so I went over to pet him.
I noticed that he was holding his front leg kind of funny, so I started to rub it and lift it; he didn't mind, but he didn't walk either.
So I got some grass and held it up to him. He was hungry, so he walked forward to ge
t it...not good.
He could hardly walk; he kept his right foreleg bent forward when he walked, wouldn't straighten it up. Sooooo, we called the Vet. The Vet came out and said that he had hurt his knee somehow (which was very swollen; and he had had Arthritis every since we got him, and every now and again it would bother him but not this bad!)
She thought that he might have stepped in a hole or tripped or something.
She gave him a shot to calm him down and kill some of the pain.
Red
isn't much better today: he lays down allot and makes this really weird sound that's kind of like snoring. He drinks allot of water though, which is good.
Also, my horse Silkie has eaten too much clover and is suffering from massive slobber attacks. She just stands around and drools.
So please pray for my horses Red and Silkie: if 26 year old Red doesn't get better, he'll have to be put down, and I don't think that I could handle that.

Thanks!

Let's Play 'Catch-Up'!

Okay, let's play 'catch-up'....
Monday was my Birthday, I am now fourteen! We had a great day, and I got some very nice presents.
Saturday, my mom and I went to this thing called 'Women in the Outdoors', it was fun; we went fly-fishing, and shot a 22. Rifle and pistole. I also got to try my hand a archery for the first time...a
nd got bullseye the first few times! (I got three arrows in the same place, and I wasn't even trying!-I felt like Susan Pevensie from Narnia!:)
Also, one mor
e announcement for the Picture Taking Contest: as you all know, Monday was the end day, and I had said that I would be posting the winners August the 1st, well, I am really busy now with canning beans and so on, and next week my dad and brother are going to the Father/Son Retreat in Colorado, and my mom and I are going to GA that same week to visit my Grandma, (who is doing quite well,) so I won't be able to get them posted by then I don't think, but that may change-so please be patient!

I thank all of you girls for the lovely e-cards and e-mails for my Birthday...that was very sweet!
Thanks again!

My Pets!

Hello,
I've decided to do a post about my pets! We have five cats, two goats, two horses and one dog;
Here is my cat Sheba, she was our first pet. All of our cats are strays, (except for Jinx,
but we'll get to that later.) Sheba was wild, and she started coming around about the time that we moved up here in 2000. I had never had a cat, so I was determined to win her over...and, I did! Slowly, day by day, I would come out side to where she was and sit there talking to her so that she would get used to my voice. Then, one day, she was under the picnic table on our deck sleeping, so I slid under there and put my hand on her back, and that was when she became ours! She's been her ever since; and here's the funny part, not to pick on my dad or anything, but he had said that we weren't going to have any more, but then....Smokey came along. I was downstairs in our basement one day, and when I came up stairs, this gray cat was curled up at our door outside. I ran to mom and said, "Mom! Where did that gray cat come from?!" She said that it just showed up. So when dad came up stairs, he asked the same thing and got the same answer. So over the week my brother and I went out and played with the cat, she was very nice and already tame.
Back then my dad used to go bike riding allot, and one day, he was sitting on the porch with mom and me, and Smokey came up there and was rubbing all over dad's legs and meowing. Dad rolled his eyes and said, "Give the cat some food." And that's when Smokey came into our family! (And dad said, "No more cats!")
Buuuuuut...one evening, a couple of years later, we had come home from somewhere and were looking for Smokey, so we went outside and were calling here when this fat, tabby colored cat came running up onto the porch. It was dark so I thought that it was Smokey; so I swept her up and carried her to my room! (Silly me!) Mom came into the room and Smokey was following her...needles to say, I had to put the cute kitty back outside. Later that week, Bear got a
adopted into our family. :)
(And..."No more cats!") But, then again....Dad had just come back from Georgia on a business trip, and we were all sitting in the den talking together, (and of course, back in those days, I had a guinea-pig called *Hopper.) Well, Hopper was outside on the front porch in his cage, and I said to mom that I was going to go and get him in for the night, and she said, "No, not right now. Maybe in a few minutes." So, I waited for almost twenty minutes and then asked again and got the same answer. Almost an hour later, I asked for the third time, (by now it was almost dark,) and she said, "No, later."
Now I was getting very suspicious. "Momma, why can't I go outside and get Hopper? It's getting dark and cold!" She looked at me and said,
"Because there's a hurt cat out on the porch and I don't want you to go out there." I gasped and looked at dad; he rolled his eyes. "Momma! Is he hurt bad?! What color is he? Is he tame???" Mom quieted me.
Then, at supper, the cat meowed and meowed and meowed. Dad stood and said, "I'm going to take the cat to the vet." So he did, and the cat didn't cause him one bit of trouble.
Well, the cat ended up having surgery for his leg because h
e had been attacked by some wild animal, he had to have two pins put in his leg because it was broken...and when he was better, Lemon was welcomed into our family!!!
And once again..."No more cats!"
It was my brother's birthday and mom and I were watchin
g my uncle's dog for him while he was out of town. Well, we went to his house to feed the dog, and the dog had broken the cage and was out tearing everything in sight, so we had to take him to the vet so that they could board him there until my uncle got back. At the vet, as soon as you walk in, there is a cage with kittens and/or cats in it. This time, there was a cute, black kitten, and of course, I picked her up and was holding her, she was just laying there, purring her little black head off. I took her to mom at the front desk and we were both petting her and all that, when the girl at the front desk said, "You had better take that kitten home, or she'll be put to sleep within twenty-three hours." Of course, that tripped my trigger! I looked at mom and said, "Ah! Mom! We can't let them put her to sleep! Hey, I just got an idea! Today's Nathan's birthday, right? Well, let's give it to him for his birthday!!!" Well, um, her she is!

Okay, that's the cats' stories. Now lets move on the our other animals. They don't have much of a story to tell, just that our horse Silkie was the first horse that we ever bought; she is a four and a half year old Halflinger mare, is very stubborn and mean when she wants to be! (But we still love her!)
Oh, and she's extremely spoiled! :D Anyway, then there's Red, he's a twenty-six year old Quarter Horse gelding. (Twenty-six years is very old for a horse.) He's got arthritis really bad in one knee, so he doesn't like to be ridden very much. :(
And who could for get our crazy goats, Charlie and Chester. Th
eir mother was a Fainting Goat, which is a goat that if it gets scared, it's legs go stiff and they fall over on their backs! Their father was a Boar Goat, and they're really mean! But, thankfully, they're more Fainting Goat than Boar Goat. (But the don't "faint".) They're both brothers, part of quadruplets. We had them withered when we got them, and trust me, that's allot better than having them not withered, because if they're not withered, when they go through mating season, they get really stinky! Charlie is my goat, and Chester is Nathan's. They're both adorable and we love 'em!
And last but not least, our dog Marshal, he's a Great Pyrenees, and is also the most skittish dog that has ever lived! We don't know why he's so skittish, we think that maybe he had had a different owner who beat him all the time, but we're not sure. (But he is loved dearly at our home!)

Well, that's the story of our animals, and I'm happy to say that they are all living here in North Carolina happily, and they are all loved and cared for.

-Rose

*My guinea-pig Hopper died in between the time that we got Lemon and Jinx, he was cute and loved dearly. I'm sorry that I have no pictures of him, but he was brown and white spotted and would follow me around my room. (Very cute indeed!)
Thanks for reading this post about my animals!!!

Reformed Family Bible Conference 2008

Well, the Bible Conference of '08 has past.
We had tons of fun this year; we got good, biblical teaching, were able to see and fellowship with friends, enjoy gorgeous weather and on the last night kick it off with a good Barn Dance.
The speakers this year included pastor Greg Green, pastor Joe Moorecraft, pastor Chris Streavel, pastor Wayne Rogers, pastor Jess Stanfield, and guest speaker pastor Gary DeMar. It was very refreshing to hear good Christian teaching in such a perverted nation. Also, we got to hear Judy Rogers sing (lower left,) she writes
songs for children and young adults alike; my little sister, Rebekah, enjoys going up on stage with other children every year to sing one of her favorite Judy Rogers songs, Isabelle is a Pig. (Sounds lovely, doesn't it? :)
Anyway, I go
t to talk to allot of my dear sisters in Christ, one of which was Rebecca Martinez, (at right)
she is a very dear frie
nd who lives down in Texas, and I only get to see her there at Conference. If you wish to
get to know Rebecca more, she has a blog that she has just started, the address is: www.texan-by-the-grace-of-god.blogspot.com.
Friday night
is always the "Big Night" for allot of the girls; this is the night of the Barn Dance. This year, at the last session, we sang a very 'blood rousing' song called 'King Alfred's War Song', this was a fast pace song, I can't fully describe it, but it was very neat. (You might want to try and look it up on the Internet.)
This year, the last session lasted to about 9:30, and we usually try and start the dance at 9:00 PM, but when the session was
over, we went to Shott Hall, a.k.a. the Cafeteria where the dance is held, and it was not set up, so we had to move all of the chairs and tables and help Dr. Fultz (the man who calls the dances,) to set up his equipment.
The dance was fun, it went to 12:00 AM, I danced with three nice, you
ng men, one of which I danced the Virginia Reel with, the Virginia Reel is the last dance that they do, and last year I was not asked for that one, but this year I was asked.
(Top left: Myself and Chuck Fultz dancing in a Square Dance. And to the right myself and Robert Martinez in a Square.)

I believe that everyone, especially the young adult girls, dread the last day when it is time to leave; not only must you leave your friends, but you must leave them for a whole year! This year the weather suited the mood perfectly: overcast and cool.
If any of you girls that I met this year see this post, then I say to you: Thank you for being my friend and tak
ing the time to talk to me, and may God bless you this year and Lord willing I will see you all next year for the 2009 Reformed Family Bible Conference at Blue Field College in Virginia!

rls might recognize them...:)

Memorial Day at Scott Brown's Farm!

After the Home School Conference, we left from there to Wake Forest near Raleigh, to go to Scott Brown's farm for Memorial Day. Scott Brown is the pastor of Hope Baptist and speaks at some of Doug Phillips' conferences.
It was so fun! They had Veterans speak and had lunch, there were rides in army trucks, and of course time to
speak to with the Veterans.
I talked to some
of them; it was very interesting to hear of their experiences in the war.
I also talked to Mr.
Phillips and his son Joshua, that was fun, too.
I met Scott
Brown's father, Mr. Bill Brown, now there's a person with a very interesting story:
Bill Brown was fighting at Iwo Jima, he was in a P-51 Mustang, covering the back of a B-29 from Japanese Zero fire, when he was hit. As his plane was going down, he parachuted out of it and into the ocean below.
Of course, he survived, and just recently, Scott Brown was interviewing a man by the name of Buck Bunn, and here is the funny part; Buck Bunn was on Iwo that same day, and he said to Scott Brown:
"You know, I saw
a man jump out of a Mustang that day. I was the one that accidentally shot it down." So Scott Brown did some research, and, there was only one surviver that jumped out of a plane-Mr. Brown! So, Buck Bunn was the one that shot Mr. Brown out of the sky! (Above is a picture of Mr. Bill Brown. And to the right is Mr. Buck Bunn showing us the gun position of the B-29.)
T
he two men were there at Memorial Day up on the stage, and Mr. Bunn said: "Bill, I'm sorry that I shot you out of the sky." Mr. Brown said: "Aw, that's alright, I forgive you. It was a nice day for a jump any way."
Isn't it amazing how God's providence works? Mr. Bunn had to be there that day, at that exact moment, to shoot M
r. Brown down, and Mr. Brown had to be there on that day, at that exact time, flying in the sky fighting off Zeros. And then, they had to meet each other, I find that so extraordinary!
Oh, and I met William Henderson; he landed on Iwo Jima on D-Day, he's eighty-six years old! (To the right is William Henderson.)
(Above is Pete Sowell and I.) And then I met this really nice man, his name was Pete Sowell, he said that he was a Coast Guard, he got to be on battleships. I thought that that was neat too.
Memorial Day was most probably the best thing that I've ever gone to, and I look forward to going again, Lord willing.

Here are some pictures of the speakers and the fun.

Oh yes, and I got to hold Triumph, Kelly and Peter Bradrick's son. He's sooooo cute!
